Embracing Imperfection

August 9, 2026  2026

It’s going to be a two blog weekend apparently.

In the last blog about painting, Mirrored Duality, I mentioned a canvas that I was unhappy with because it wasn’t how I envisioned it. To my brain it was “wrong” somehow.

That canvas has sat on my art table for a couple of weeks, dry now. The edges unfinished, because I was going to gesso it over and reuse the canvas. So why bother, right?

Except yesterday happened. I was cleaning up my art table and took the time to actually look at the painting again. Picked it up and moved closer to the window for the natural light to really see the play of colors.

It’s definitely abstract in concept and technique. But there’s just something about this canvas. In my opinion it isn’t a great or beautiful painting. It wasn’t the painting that was wrong, just the timing of it.

There is darkness and light, that’s my style. However it’s blending, rather than starkly separate. It’s not beautiful in the classic sense (kind of like it’s creator LOL). Yet it is a powerful representation of the message I wanted it to convey after all.

At this point in blogs about art, I usually give the reason why it was created, how, the concept and the message I am trying to express. So logical and precise, leaving no room for personal interpretations. I know why I’ve been this way. And it stops now.

I will still create art and share it. But the technical aspects are not what is important. It’s only important that I keep creating. Painting a canvas is personal, yes. But interpretation is also personal… and it’s different for everyone.

From now on, I won’t be telling you what it should make you think or feel. The magic gets buried in rigid logic when I do that. That’s what should shine, not my clinically delivered assessment.

I did warn you that I was healing and changing. However this is not a bad thing. I am finally learning to balance all aspects of myself. The formerly hidden, protective parts and the now open, vulnerable parts. The logical dreamer… a paradox, yes. Also necessary, if I am going to be fully myself.

To some of you, I may seem very different, with these changes. And to others- they knew this was me all along… even though I tried to keep these parts hidden and protected.

If you choose to stick around and continue reading what I write, fantastic! Everyone who wants to be here is welcome and greatly appreciated. This blog started as a way to share my art and my mind. Then it became a trauma dumping ground.

I want to navigate away from the trauma posting. There will still be posts about art and healing. However, the deep dives into the abyss, laying bare all the ugliness of my former life, has come to an end.

I can’t promise I won’t mention Hizumi again. He’s someone important to me and always will be. He was the lighthouse during the storms of my trauma. He, as a person, and his music is vital to the healing I’ve done after all this time. The music (of NUL and DR) is as much a part of me as writing and painting is.

Today is the 16th anniversary of when I saw DR in Chicago. Not monumental to anyone but me, I’m sure. And yet, each year I will celebrate. For now, I will watch one of the older concerts on dvd. I hope in the future to have another dvd for my collection. DR- reborn from the ashes. Because this new DR is even more powerful than their younger selves.

Music is important in my life and that won’t change. Music is magic- it unites people who never would have met otherwise (I’ve met amazing people through the music of NUL- Kitsunebi, Noa, Finsterweiss), it comforts and heals the broken parts of all of us, and it gives us hope during the darkest, scariest moments in our lives. If that isn’t magic, I don’t know what is.

I finally received the package I ordered from overseas last week, but hesitated to post about it. I’m not doing it for attention or to facilitate the rumors that I am delusional. I’m not tagging anyone, begging for a response. That’s not who I am. I’m just here to enjoy the music, create art, write poetry and live my life. That’s my purpose. That’s what brings me joy and peace. And so it shall be, for the rest of my days. I am enough, just as I am.

Always,
