Part 2 of Painting Prep

In today’s blog, I am sharing the results of testing different brushes and stroke techniques. (I didn’t mean for that to sound so dirty LOL)

In the first image, I used a flat brush, however the paint is too transparent.

In the second image I used a rounded Filbert brush. The results of this brush stroke is too dense and not enough feathering.

In the third image, I used a bamboo toothbrush and got the exact effect I was hoping for. Yes, a toothbrush can be used as a painting tool.

For this image, I used a fan brush in vermilion paint. This too, is the effect I was hoping for.

In the last image, I was testing out blending techniques and tools. I wanted a soft smoky look for the background, so its not stark black all over the canvas.

Today I will begin applying the smoky technique to the canvas. It has to be done before any other elements can be added.

This is, by far, the most preparation I have ever done for a painting.

Thank you for following me on this journey into the uncharted waters of my artistic abilities.
